The Shift is a social innovation challenge. Teams of highly skilled-volunteers come together to develop high potential ideas into solutions for some of our community’s most challenging issues.
How It Works:
Meet Your Team: Participants will be placed on one of three teams. Teams are assembled based on their skills, strengths, backgrounds, and interests. Each team will receive an idea that addresses our community’s most pressing issue.
Your goal: To develop ideas into innovative models that can make Cincinnati a better place to live for everyone.
Learn the Skills: Every other week, Shift teams participate in a total of five 4-hour working sessions. You’ll learn how to use human-centered design to strengthen and test your idea, make it more sustainable, and tell your story to gain support. You’ll also learn from community members and city’s best social innovation, leadership, and startup experts.
Test your idea: Roll up your sleeves and design, build, and test your idea. You’ll spend your off-weeks planning and testing with your team.
Pitch It: At the end of the program, each team will present their idea at a startup-style “Demo Day” event. (Don’t worry, you’ll also have time to practice).
Launch it: At the end of the program, if end up with a feasible pilot project, United Way will help your team identify resources and a community partner to implement the pilot.
